A SHORT SUMMARY OF JULIUS CAESAR:
ACT-I, SCENE-I:
⏩After defeating the sons of Pompey, Caesar returned to Rome.
⏩Prior to that Caesar had done down Pompey at the battle of Pharsalia and Pompey had died soon afterwards.
⏩The people of Rome started celebrating Caesar's triumph over the sons of Pompey and his triumphant return.
⏩On the same day, Lupercalia was celebrated by the Romans in honour of the God of fertility and plenty.
⏩Large number of people were rejoicing over Caesar's latest military victory.
⏩However, some were inwardly hostile to Caesar.
⏩The Tribunes were against Caesar. The Tribunes were high official who looked after the welfare of the common people.
⏩Flavius and Marullus who have now come into the streets to check the common people from continuing from their celebration.
⏩The Tribunes condemned those people who were celebrating Caesar's victory over the sons of Pompey.
⏩The people now dispersed at the Tribune's behest/command.
⏩Flavius suggested his colleague to go and shrug off the decorations from the statues of Caesar in the city.
⏩He would say that he too would do the same.
⏩They thought that Caesar should not be magnified.
⏩Flavius further says that now was the time to curb the power and authority of Caesar because if no action was taken at this stage against Caesar, he would become a dictator and would begin to flout and neglect the common people and keep them in a state of servility.
SIGNIFICANCE OF ACT-I, SCENE-I:
⏩The first scene of the first act displays the presence of some persons, inimical to Caesar.
⏩ The conduct of the people unveils that they were fickle-minded.
