THE LABURNUM TOP
By- Ted Hughes
About the Poem:
The poem, The Laburnum Top, composed by Ted Hughes depicts life and its fluctuations very exquisitely through the symbols of the laburnum tree and the goldfinches. The goldfinch makes the tree alive and vivacious as the chicks of the goldfinch start chirping on her arrival. Again when the goldfinch leaves the tree, it becomes hushed and still again. Here, using the laburnum tree, the poet shows us the monotony of human life in general. On the other hand, the goldfinch breaks the usual pattern and makes the tree lively and vibrant. The laburnum tree is just like another tree without the goldfinch. In other words, it is said that the meaning and worth of life depend on the approach of a person towards life.
